Campground: Camp Outback
Where’s it at? Guerneville, CA in Mendocino
Camp Outback is in Guerneville, CA and is a pretty neat little camping area if you’re adventuring in the area. On this trip we attended the Russian River Beer Revival and BBQ Cookoff hosted by the Stumptown Brewery. Tons of vendors offering beer and excellent BBQ, from what I can remember.
Camp Outback is within a fair hike from the festival and we camped here afterward while recovering. It was a great atmosphere with a lot of fellow festival attendees camping in the area.
I’d setup my hammock between two trees and used it for relaxation that evening, and for some reason I decided to swing wildly in it, which resulted in a good bail. WATCH OUT FOR POISON OAK HERE! I totally am familiar with poison oak as it’s plagued me for years. Definitely know what it looks like in every season and I generally attempt to avoid it at all costs, but this time I was careless. It seems the trees I tied my hammock to were COVERED with it. I got the worst case of poison oak in my life on this trip, leading to a week of solid misery despite my arsenal of prescription pills and ointments. And the worst part? My hammock STILL has the oils on it despite a thorough washing and use of Tecnu in a pail that I scrubbed it with. I’ve had the poison oak revist me while using the hammock a few times now but I refuse to throw it away. So…take my advice and watch out for poison oak if you’re camping here.
