Hike Date: November 13, 2011
Distance: ~ 3 miles
Trail(s): Alston Park Trails
Where’s it at? Alston Park, Northwest Napa
Alston Park is a small, very dog-friendly (off leash even) park on the West side of Napa run by Napa’s Park and Recreation office. Definitely not a destination hike by itself, but it is a connector trail for other longer and more view-ridden trails in the area.
I wasn’t super impressed with Alston park although it had just enough trails to get a 3-4 mile quick hike in while exploring my new home town’s parks. The park sits right aside a vineyard which had it’s fall colors flaring when I went. You get decent views of the Napa Valley and surrounding hills but nothing too special.
The park was a little too crowded for my taste on a weekend day. While you could find trails that gave you a little solitude, the park is so wide open (very very few trees) that you cannot escape seeing at least ten other people at any given moment.
I’m 100% sure I’d enjoy hiking here again a lot more if I had one of man’s best friends, but I don’t right now. I’m glad to have explored the park but don’t expect to make a return visit unless as part of a longer hike, using it as a connector trail.
