Where’s it at?

This wasn’t my first hike here, and nor was it the first time that the trail signs didn’t seem to match up with the trail map, causing me to get “lost”. I pride myself in being pretty good with direction, at least I usually know which direction is north, etc. And yes, some of this I learned from survival shows. Anyway, again I lost track of which trail (we) were on and we ended up doing a little bit of creek trailblazing which led to some great photos.

The lake at Jack London’s old spot was essentially completely dry this visit. It has never been a full lake when I’ve visited but this time it was just algae. Nonetheless it made a nice spot for a picnic lunch with some delicious Pinot Noir from La Crema. We had sandwiches from Vergas (sp) market in Napa.

On this visit it was raining. Not a downpour but enough to get us wet. It was fun to hike in the rain, I don’t do it that often, and had planned for it wearing waterproof hiking clothes. Aside from making it hard to keep the camera dry I think we both enjoyed it.

This park has just enough trails to make for some lengthy hikes with some climbing if that’s what you’re after. There are really so many different trails that it can be easy to get turned around here. I suggest definitely getting a map and being better than I have about keeping track of exactly where you’re at. Make sure to pay a visit to the big redwood tree within the park, it’s amazing!
