Stayed here for free during “Labor Week” 2010 as a staging for backpacking the following day. We fished at the dam of Union Valley Reservoir and spent one night here. Wasn’t too bad.
A friend and I took a dispersed camping trip and what I’ll refer to as super ultra-lightweight backpacking. The location? the Southwest end of Union Valley Reservoir in Crystal Basin near Kyburz, CA off highway 50.
The Auburn Regional Park Disc Golf Course is scenic and though little elevation change, it has a good mix of densely forested, wide open grass, and water hazard holes.
18 holes at the Penn Valley course rewards disc golfers with 18 holes each having a plethera of basket locations (A-G in many cases). There’s even a moat! These pictures do the course no justice but I haven’t visited during Winter or Spring yet.
Condon Valley Disc Golf course in Grass Valley off Hwy 80/20 is probably my personal second favorite course. Water hazards, trees with a lot of tricky shots and several long holes.
The 18 hole disc golf course in Rocklin, California has some fairly long shots and is much prettier and the weather nicer during Spring.
Crystal Basin off Hwy 50 is a great summertime play place for camping, hiking, biking, fishing and boating. Just west of Desolation Wilderness the area offers wonderful views and some great hiking. Try the dispersed camping for a free campground you have to yoursel(f/ves).
